Marks Percentage Calculator

Enter the marks you got and the total marks to see your percentage. For a full report card, type each subject as marks out of total and get the overall percentage, a subject-by-subject breakdown and the marks you would need for a higher score.

Percentage = marks obtained ÷ total marks × 100 = 412 ÷ 500 × 100
Percentage = 82.4%
Marks lost: 88. To reach 90% you would need 450 marks.
CBSE-style conversion: CGPA ≈ percentage ÷ 9.5 = 8.67. Other boards and universities use their own formulas.

Quick start

  1. For one exam, type the marks obtained and the total marks, for example 412 and 500.
  2. For several subjects, use the third box instead: 78/100, 85/100, 66/80.
  3. Read the percentage and the extra lines below it.

The formula

Percentage = marks obtained ÷ total marks × 100. For 412 out of 500: 412 ÷ 500 × 100 = 82.4%.

Several subjects with different totals

Add all the marks obtained and all the totals, then divide. For 78/100, 85/100 and 66/80: (78 + 85 + 66) ÷ (100 + 100 + 80) × 100 = 229 ÷ 280 × 100 ≈ 81.79%.

Do not simply average the three subject percentages (78%, 85% and 82.5%, averaging 81.83%). That gives the 80-mark subject the same weight as the 100-mark ones, so the answer is slightly off.

Marks needed for a target

Multiply the total by the target percentage. To reach 90% of 500 you need 0.9 × 500 = 450 marks. The calculator shows this for the next useful target.

Percentage and CGPA

CBSE has used the rule percentage ≈ CGPA × 9.5, so a CGPA of 8.6 is about 81.7%. The calculator shows the reverse conversion as a guide. Universities and other boards use their own formulas, so check the one printed on your marksheet.

Common questions

How do I calculate my percentage from marks?

Divide your marks by the total marks and multiply by 100. 360 out of 450 is 80%.

How do I find the percentage for all subjects together?

Add every subject's marks and every subject's total, then divide. Enter them in the third box as marks/total, separated by commas.

How do I convert CGPA to percentage?

For CBSE, multiply the CGPA by 9.5. Other boards and universities publish their own formulas.

Can I enter half marks?

Yes. Decimals such as 72.5 work.
